Phil Mickelson make a lot of progress in golf
Phil Mickelson said he might even be headed for one of the better stretches of his already-impressive career."I see some things in my game that are starting to get better and better," the four-time major winner said Tuesday after a practice round at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course. "I've been able to, for the last year, year-and-a-half now, putt with direction. I really know what it is I'm Els And Former President Bush Inducted Into World Golf Hall Of Fame trying to do on the greens now. I'm rolling the ball better than I ever have in years."My short game has been sharp. My driving has been much better. ... I feel like I'm driving the ball straighter than I ever have."
If that's the case, then the 40-year-old Mickelson has a lot left to accomplish before he reaches Champions Tour eligibility in 2020.He has already won 39 times on the PGA Tour, including the Shell Houston Open this year.Mickelson won the Masters three times (2004, 2006, 2010), the 2005 PGA Championship and the 2007 Players Championship. That's not saying he's going to win 39 more tournaments, but those titleist ap2 irons victories — and some heartbreaking stumbles — have certainly taught Mickelson some valuable lessons.Plus, he's not laboring under the pressure of being labeled the best player to have never won a major, as he did for so long before his 2004 Masters breakthrough.Since winning in 2007 with back-to-back 69s on the weekend, Mickelson has broken 70 just once in his last 12 rounds at the Stadium Course. And with hot, dry weather expected this week and a slightly deeper rough, Mickelson said it's going to take his — or anyone's — best to win."The course looks terrific, and it looks very difficult," he said. "I played nine holes [Monday] night and it was extremely firm greens and the rough is longer than it has been and difficult to advance it and certainly difficult to get it on the green.
