Brief introduction of Golf European Tour

IBERDROLA OPEN, Pula Golf Club, Son Servera, Mallorca, Spain - The European Tour is still mourning the loss its biggest star, biggest winner and biggest influence. When Seve Ballesteros passed away Saturday, the Clemson Selected For NCAA Golf Tournament tour held a moment of silence in the middle of Ballesteros' national championship, the Open de Espana. The tour is still in Spain this week and headlining the field is Ballesteros' Ryder Cup partner and close friend, Jose Maria Olazabal.
The 2012 Ryder Cup captain will head back to the course after Ballesteros' funeral on Wednesday. Olazabal re-designed the course and won the last of 23 European Tour titles here in 2005 when the Mallorca Classic was staged at Pula Golf Club. The Mallorca Classic was very good to the Spanish stars. Olazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sergio Garcia all won that title. Mr. Ballesteros won three times on the island of Mallorca and all of the flags this week will have a black ribbon on them in honor of the Hall of Famer. Spaniard Alejandro Canizares will try to do a little better this year. He lost in a playoff last year to Peter Hanson, but Hanson won't be on hand to defend his title. Hanson is scheduled to be in the field at the Players Championship. Golf Channel has the action all week. Next week there are two events on the European Tour schedule. There is the Volvo World Match Play Championship, which Ross Fisher won in 2009, the last year the tournament was played, and the Madeira Islands Open BPI - Portugal, which was won by James Morrison in 2010.
